Visitor Reactions to 100 Days of Silence

We are thrilled to present 100 Days of Silence, a truly moving and dynamic art initiative that commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

Beginning on April 7, 1994 and continuing for the next 100 days, over 800,000 men, women and children of Rwanda were murdered. The world stood by in silence.

Chhange’s commemoration of this genocide is like no other: it joins together students, educators, community members, and genocide survivors to experience history through art. Participants learned about the genocide, and were inspired to create their responses using life size forms as canvases. The result is a powerful, beautiful, haunting and hope-filled statement about genocide and humanity.

We could not be more proud of the exhibit, the students, their teachers and the artists who participated. Read what some of our visitors have said:

Awesome – so proud that those who participated didn’t stay silent.
– Pamela Robinson, The Rugby School.

Thank you from a Genocide Survivor on behalf of all Rwandans for this learning experience.  Never again!!
– Desire K.

So glad to see art teaching kids that closed eyes don’t make hard truths disappear.
– Lorie Ringo, Millstone Middle School

Outstanding exhibit—I have goosebumps from seeing all the art and reading the artists’ statements. It’s amazing how the student groups worked in collaboration to come up with the concepts & to execute their plans so effectively. There’s something very powerful here—Great job, Chhange!
– Missy Peck, Ocean Twp.
