Dr. Mathilde Benveniste was born in Salonika, Greece, to a family that has lived there since the Spanish expulsion at the end of the 15th century. Her parents were among the four percent of Salonika’s Jews who have survived the Holocaust.
Benveniste is an inventor of telecommunications technology, and a consultant on intellectual property. In recent years she has researched and documented her heritage and the history of the city’s Jewish Community, and has given public talks on the subject.
