Emperor Divine smallBROOKDALE READ

We will share a common intellectual experience as we read the novel When the Emperor Was Divine, by Julie Otsuka. The book follows one Japanese American family's experience when they were forced to live in an internment camp during World War II. Invisible Children: Child Soldiers

invisible-children-child-soldiersJoin us for a film screening and learn about the organization, Invisible Children, and its mission to bring about the permanent end to the Lord’s Resistance Army. The LRA, led by Joseph Kony and known for its brutality, has been accused of horrific human rights violations including murder, abduction, child-sex slavery, and forcing children to become child soldiers.

David, a Ugandan who witnessed the effects of the LRA first-hand, will tell his personal story after the film.

Invisible Children merchandise will be available for purchase to help support the cause. Items include bags, scarves, t-shirts and jewelry.
