Rescue in the Philippines
To commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education (Chhange) is pleased to host the New Jersey Shore premiere of Rescue in The Philippines. This one-hour documentary features the untold story of the five Frieder brothers, Cincinnati businessmen who used their two-for-a-nickel cigar business in pre-WWII Manila to help 1,200 Jews escape the Nazis and immigrate to the Philippines.
Aiding the Frieder brothers in this mission were Manuel Quezon, the first President of the Philippines, Paul McNutt, U.S. High Commissioner and former Governor of Indiana, and Army Colonel Dwight Eisenhower.
Dr. Jeff Roffman, local physician and nephew of the Frieder brothers, will introduce the film, share information about his family and answer questions.
