Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

SK D 13030It only took a second to cut the ceremonial ribbon, but that joyous event was the end result of years of hard work and planning. On December 14, 2012, we celebrated the official opening of our new Center on the beautiful campus of Brookdale Community College.

SK D 13012As Brookdale President, Dr. Maureen Murphy, noted in her comments to the attendees, the new headquarters for Chhange are in the building that houses the Bankier Library at Brookdale, making our new site an ideal place for learning the lessons of history.

SK D 13024Chhange Board President Howard Dorman, the son of Holocaust survivors, opened the ceremonies by sharing with us his personal connection to the Center. Chhange Director, Dale Daniels, explained why, “We Educate, We Inspire, We Empower,” are so fundamental to the mission of Chhange. “Our new facility is just the starting point of a new era: in addition to our ever-growing list of community outreach events, we are developing a state-of-the art multimedia exhibit,” says Daniels.

SK D 13017Local Holocaust survivor, artist and Chhange board member Claire Boren highlighted the morning by describing how she used her artistic talents to help her work through her trauma of living through the Holocaust and the years she and her mother spent hiding from the Nazis in Poland.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Brookdale Community College and to the staff at the school for their incredible support and guidance with the construction work on the new facility. We would also like to thank Monmouth Festival of the Arts, Monmouth Reform Temple, Lowy's Moving Service and the many Chhange volunteers who helped make this day possible. As always, we are indebted to Center founders, Jack Needle, Dr. Sy Siegler and Dean Norma Klein.
