Chhange Wrapped up the Big Read in Monmouth County with a Keynote Event Featuring Author Ernest J. Gaines

On Monday, April 22, 2013 we met with award-winning author Ernest J. Gaines. Chhange selected his book, A Lesson Before Dying because its underlying message resonates with our mission: preserving human dignity and social justice. Gaines is the author of several other books, including The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. We learned first-hand how the novel A Lesson Before Dying came to be written, why he chose the characters and setting for the novel, and about his love for the written word. Afterwards, Mr. Gaines took on thought-provoking questions and comments from the students and other members of the audience.
