Emperor Divine smallBROOKDALE READ

JOIN CHHANGE AND THE BROOKDALE COMMUNITY THIS FALL

We will share a common intellectual experience as we read the novel When the Emperor Was Divine, by Julie Otsuka. The book follows one Japanese American family's experience when they were forced to live in an internment camp during World War II. Programs will be held throughout the semester, centered on the novel’s themes of racism, prejudice, and the dangers of stereotyping. READ MORE

An Afternoon with our Holocaust Survivors
July 22, 2014

survivevent2 edit

This event had been planned, prepared, and sponsored by members of Chhange’s Generations, Descendants of Holocaust Survivors group. Dale Daniels, the Executive Director of Chhange, addressed the survivors and updated them on the Center’s programs, archives, and planned Core Exhibit; Sheila Schindel welcomed them on behalf of the Generations.

Approximately 75 survivors attended the event, which was filled with warmth, love, camaraderie and a strong sense of generational connection.

It was so fulfilling for me to talk with the survivors at my table,
and get to know these amazing people.…
They remind us of our own families that we miss so much…
Renee Geller, a member of the Generations group
