Dr. Jennifer Craig-Norton is an Honorary Fellow of the Parkes Institute for Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at the University of Southampton. Her new book, The Kindertransport: Contesting Memory, challenges the celebratory narratives of the Kindertransport that have dominated popular memory as well as literature on the subject. In an era in which the family separation of refugees has commanded considerable attention, this book is a timely exploration of the effects of family separation as it was experienced by child refugees in the age of fascism.
Stephen Feinberg was the former Special Assistant for Education Programs in the National Institute for Holocaust Education at USHMM and a member of the United States delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) from 1999 to 2011. Stephen was a mentor to Dr. Craig-Norton throughout her academic journey. He will join a panel discussion on understanding the Kindertransport and its place in Holocaust Education.
Manny Lindenbaum survived the Holocaust as a Kindertransportee. His testimony highlights the difficulties he faced after being separated from his family and resettled in the United Kingdom. Manny will share his testimony and discuss his work with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) and child refugees today.
Cost: $50.00 for active educators, $25.00 for pre-service educators, $35.00 for retired educators
