Chhange invites you to bear witness to Eugenie Mukeshimana’s testimony as a survivor of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Within 100 days, more than 900,000 men, women and children were murdered. Eugenie, pregnant and alone, was hidden by strangers underneath a bed. As added safety, the children sleeping in the bed had no knowledge Eugenie was hiding beneath.

Today, Rwandans continue to work to rebuild the country, and to develop an inclusive national identity and people.

You can also visit Eugenie as a featured survivor in Chhange’s permanent exhibit Journeys Beyond Genocide: The Human Experience.
