100 Days of Silence – Student Art Installation

The 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda resulted in the murder of over 800,000 men, women and children in 100 days. This exhibit was created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the genocide. Students in grades 5 through college from across New Jersey created over 80 life-size, foam-core human figures expressing their response to learning about the genocide and the silence of the world to it.

The Exhibit’s Goals:

  • Educate about the genocide
  • Encourage visitors to reflect upon the experience of the Rwandan people and the silence of the world during the genocide
  • Inspire students to demonstrate their responses to learning about genocide

Chhange educates, inspires, and empowers individuals to stand up to injustice.
